Video Search Provider blinkx Launches Broadband TV Platform

A solid day for independent film on the Web. In addition to Cinema Dailymotion, video search providers blinkx have introduced a broadband TV platform, also featuring independent films.

blinkx’s BBTV promises full-screen television quality video, and a wealth of additional information about the video content next to the video. Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO of blinkx said, “The Web is the largest repository of connected information in the world – on any subject and from myriad sources. BBTV delivers television over the Internet, but it also fuses that TV with the wealth of information on the Web, rather than appearing as just another layer floating above it.”

The BBTV platform, like Joost, Vuze, and other similar players, requires a client-side download. Users can browse for related information from anywhere else on the Web, including search engines, Wikipedia or IMDB, for example.

The only content provider announced to date is Dogwoof Pictures, a UK film distributor specializing in independent films
