Video Landscape Confusing - Survey

In a survey conducted for video aggregator, WeShow (see previous post), Kelton Research found that most people are “lost, frustrated and overwhelmed by online video chaos.”

The survey found that “the lack of quality, organization and entertainment value threatens to prevent many people from actively participating in the online video revolution. ” While I find this claim to be slightly dubious for video consumers, it does represent the situation in the online advertising community.

Other key findings were that:

- More than 60 percent of Americans feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of online videos
- 46 percent of these people do not watch more online videos because they dread the task of weeding through too many search results.
- 96 percent of Americans cannot find the videos they are looking for when initially conducting a search for specific content.
- 45 percent of people only view videos when they are recommended by a friend or colleague. These people are not utilizing online video as a primary entertainment source.
