Pre-Streaming Media East – Monday Roundup

On the eve of Streaming Media East, there is a lot going on:

  • VCs continue to spend big bucks on Online Video – New funding announcements have occurred almost daily over the past few months – kind of brings back memories of the mid-nineties. Some in the past week:

  • The Department of Defense will block video sharing and social networking sites. Citing security concerns and network slowdowns, thirteen sites will be no longer be accessible from DOD networks, among them YouTube and MySpace. Meanwhile the online propaganda war on terror continues (below).

  • We expect to see some interesting announcements particularly relating to commercial use of P2P technologies at Streaming Media East in the next two days.
