NYT Posts Video Letter to the Editor

The New York Times has posted a 10-minute online video letter to the editor submitted by filmmaker Charles Ferguson in response to former Iraq CPA head L Paul Bremer’s recent Op-ed piece in the paper.

Ferguson, who produced and directed the documentary No End in Sight about the Iraq war uses video, much of it interviews from his film to counter Bremer’s claims that his decision to disband the Iraqi army was the right decision.

Times Editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal told Editorial & Publisher “I have never heard of it before being done here…It is an amazing use of the Internet. This is what the Internet is all about.”

The most influential editorial page in the world is now enabling readers to use online video storytelling to express their opinions about written columns. And this is only possible as a result of the new medium.
