The content is in a similar vein of Stephen Brill’s former venture, but the company paints themselves as an analyzer of news content rather than a watchdog, and while the redesigned site may appear Huluesque, the company operates very differently than most other startups in online video space.
Newsy, based in Columbia Missouri recently announced a partnership with the Missouri School of Journalism, the Alma mater of founder Jim Spencer, whereby students work side-by-side with Newsy staff to edit and research stories. The company has raised $1.1 million in angel funding and is in the process of raising a second round of $2 million.
