Another sign of the value placed on social media by traditional news organizations, MSNBC Interactive News LLC just acquired participatory media site Newsvine for an undisclosed amount.
At the moment don’t expect to see much visible Newsvine integration into MSNBC’s site, it will continue to be run independently. But we can probably expect to see more links driving users from Newsvine to MSNBC.com, and an improved user experience as a result of the influx of capital from the deal.
MSNBC.com says they will use Newsvine to give their ‘”news explorers” another avenue to discover multiple perspectives on news, entertainment and information.” Expect them to also cherry pick the best community features from Newsvine to improve interactivity.
It will be a great fit for both companies so long as MSNBC is smart about integration. More on the Newsvine blog.
