  • There is an interesting theme developing around Live Streaming. Om Malik asks if we need it. Dan Rayburn asks is it profitable. But everyone is thinking too near-term. People will always want live coverage of things like news and sports. Many tune in to watch their favorite TV show at first broadcast. The technologies being developed to deliver live online video to the computer today will be used to deliver it to the TV tomorrow. And that is why live streaming is important.
  • Google has purchased Postini which gives Google apps a stronger position in hosted solutions for enterprise level partners. Postini offers hosted security solutions for web-based applications and says Donna Bogatin, “500 million e-mail secrets.”
  • We are still awaiting a response on the “record-breaking” number of peak concurrent streams claimed but not specified in MSN’s Live Earth press release.
  • A group led by Bill Lynn of Boathouse, and Wayne Wall of Flimp Media have launched the Web Video Marketing Council an organization aimed at providing leadership for the evolving online video marketing industry.
  • Last.fm has inked a deal with Sony/BMG. Meanwhile, as Fred Wilson notes, iTunes is increasingly being used by Apple to “lock us into their world”
  • Nintendo is testing an interactive fan network in Seattle. Mariners fans will be able to watch replays or order a hot dog from a display at their seat.
