According to a ComScore World Metrix report released today, Facebook is the fastest growing social networking site and the second fastest growing site overall (”shopping intelligence” site Ciao! is number 1) . Two video sites, MetaCafe (8) and DailyMotion (9) are also in the top ten.

What is most impressive about Facebook and DailyMotion is the frequency of visits - they were numbers one and two in frequency of the ten fastest growing. That DailyMotion is second, with an average of 5 return visits is another sign of the site’s rising popularity.

DailyMotion went international prior to YouTube, and has a much stronger global presence than most online video portals. The French company recently launched a US version, and they are working with Audible Magic to filter copyrighted content and provide digital fingerprinting. Through a combination of ad models the site will begin paying top content producers.

MetaCafe meanwhile is already paying their top producers and keeps a running tally of the site’s top earners on the front page. This in turn drives more viewers, because if they’re getting paid it has to be good…right? MetaCafe recently launched a “Studio” section featuring production tips and in depth tutorials for wannabe producers. They continue to create innovative ways of driving traffic, through contests and tie-ins with other sites.
