Could this be an Office Space for the web 2.0 set, or is “COO” Michael Golan just annoying everyone?
Several months ago, Slikstr started following me on twitter, Apparently they’re following a lot of other people also because that seems to be where most of their buzz was generated. Their claim of first round funding from a private equity source for $2 million helped earn them credibility.
A few weeks later Golan (whatever his real name was) managed to get an interview with BBC Radio, which tipped afterward seemed to realize their mistake in taking them seriously:
We’ll be interviewing them about their
business plansWeb 2.0 corporate satire on Monday. It should be a good learn.
(thanks Dean!)
And every so often I find myself watching a new video. Most of the time these videos are just irritating, like being in a conversation with someone you really dislike but can’t find a way to get out of. But I have to admit their most recent video is pretty funny.
Above: Rob’s first day @ Slikstr
“New hire” Rob Dimeno plays the role of the new guy in a startup, met at the door, camera rolling he is asked to fill out paperwork and simultaneously given the role of handling HR in addition to “Creative Director of Interactive Outreach.”
He spends the rest of the day trying to get in touch with Joel, who in an earlier video announced while smoking a joint on the roof that he was going to LA to investigate opening a satellite office.
Asked where Joel is, Golan responds: “Joel is out of town on business, didn’t you see the YouTube video?” Check it out, this is actually starting to get funny.
I’ve fallen for a fair few internet hoaxes in my time – but alas we knew slikster was a satire from the get-go (Dean was the one who tipped us to their existence – not the fact that it was a hoax, a question we put directly to them when we contacted them – though their site is pretty transparently a joke)
If you don’t believe me re-read the post – I’d hoped sentences like ” leaverage folksonomic modes of granular interaction to secure second round VC funding.” would give a pretty big clue we weren’t taking this seriously. Cheers. Chris
Thanks for that Chris, I stand corrected.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Although the cat IS out of the bag at this point, we still have some surprises up our sleeves. Thanks for the interest and we hope you’ll stay tuned:)
