Goggleburn Adds Little
Goggleburn, the new online video show hosted by Valleywag’s Nick Douglas is the internet version of the online video show TV has tried numerous times. It fails as badly as anything mainstream media has attempted.
Online shows about content don’t work unless you add some value (sex appeal, humor, wit, criticism…something) otherwise it’s just long tail content highlighting long tail content. The pilot offers few of these things. While Douglas has shown occasional wit on Valleywag, Goggleburn will need to improve significantly if it is to build a returning audience.
Far from showcasing original material that hasn’t yet been widely seen, the first episode focuses on Noah Kalina’s video which has been viewed more than 8 million times. The audience watching Next New content is likely to be the same audience that has already seen this. At least the TV shows attempting this reached new viewers.
Douglas spends half his time making faces at the camera and adds little value. On the upside the dullness of the content makes the Rambo ads accompanying it more appealing. So head on over and watch. Or you could just stare at the wall for a few minutes.

Well I went and watched goggleburn as you suggested…. another example of uninspired, unimaginative, uncreative, tired, ambitious-less content sandwiched between cool opening and closing graphics. I sometimes think every ounce of creative energy is expended on intros and extros…
