Late last week Forrester Research put out an overview of online video platforms that focused on six market leading providers. However, much of the industry has been critical – both publicly and privately – about what was included and what was left out.
Most notably, at least to this observer, is that the criteria the report used seemed to favor the larger platforms that focus on larger media companies as clients. Plenty of bonus points to be had for providing a plethora of one-click options for templates, for example. That seems a bit unfair to the providers who focus on flexibility, open APIs, and allowing for additional 3rd party providers that specialize in a particular niche, like analytics, to integrate.
That said, Bobby Tulsiani does a nice job of explaining their approach to the report to Beet.TV’s Andy Plesser.

The report was flawed. KIT digital was not included, nor was The Platform or many of the leading OVP’s.
I suspect the “study” was commissioned by the Brightcove VC people to prop up Brightcove. I could be wrong but why else would the study center on BC with the next largest player being Ooyala?
I have lost respect for Forrester.
