We’re not celebrities. They aren’t celebrities. The restaurant hasn’t been “the” place to been seen in years. But dining at New York City’s Balthazar last night, OVW met Narragansett Pictures’ Chip Benson, an independent television producer…..and a die-hard Red Sox fan.
I’m obviously biased given the subject matter, but here’s a great example of high quality, well produced, short-form niche content that reaches a targeted and loyal audience. The duo previously produced another Sawks inspired show, The Red Sake Show, which you can still catch on Brightcove. Go Sox!
Finally, some UGC thats worth talking about. Ahead of the MTV Movie Awards, scheduled for June 1st, MTV has partnered with a few major UGC sites to create the MTV Movie Award Spoof Contest.
Submissions and voting are accepted on through Photobucket, MySpace, Daily Motion, Break, Buzznet, Heavy and FunnyorDie. The deadline for submissions on partner sites is May 11th.
Personally, I think this award is already locked up by Brandon Hardesty, who has created a series of re-enactments of his favorite movies. If you haven’t seen them, you aren’t in touch with viral video.
Also, the popularity of their two latest pranks has generated a ton of traffic to their site. Consider donating to their cause so they can continue to share their creativity with us.
Just in time for Superbowl 42, Break.com took a look back at all the football teams who thought it would be a good idea to make a music video. Bet they didn’t count on them popping back up as online videos. Enjoy the top 5 over there, or just the one we all know, the Chicago Bears (Da Bears!) doing the Superbowl Shuffle, right here.
From the look of the comments section, most people are unimpressed. Which takes me back to a point I made last week. Until people care about online characters and plotlines the same way they have for TV, video produced to be consumed primarily on the web will continue to play second fiddle to professionally produced content made for the livingroom.
Ask someone to stop picking on you, and they only pile it on more. From FunnyOrDie.com, Jerry O’Connell does his best Tom Cruise impersonation, lampooning the scientology online video making rounds.
On the off chance you haven’t already seen this, here’s a great clip making the rounds on the Web. Its David Lynch ranting on why watching movies on an iPhone (or any other portable phone or device) just isn’t the same as being in the theaters. He’s right, of course, but you can’t take a movie theater onto a plane with you.
This may be one of the funniest videos online that I’ve ever seen. CoupleDoingIt.com (110% truth: its NOT porn) is, “a free educational website devoted to the education and demystification of the modern swinger lifestyle.” Other than the general subject matter, and one use of the “F-word,” it’s pretty much safe for work. No nudity.
For those of you who are nostalgic for cheesy 80’s anthems-for-a-cause like USA for Africa’s “We Are The World” and BandAid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” be sure to check out Mozilla’s viral campaign for Firefox, complete with a scrolling bar of statistics on the bottom.
