Brightcove to Focus on Platform, Not Ads

Brian Morrissey broke the story in this morning’s Adweek, that Brightcove has decided to narrow focus solely on the development on their platform, and not selling advertising.

As announced to users in an email yesterday, the company is moving their video portal to a new URL, www.Brightcove.TV and using the “.com” to be the outward face of the company and its technology and syndication services.

Your Guide to Great Video has a new address: http://www.brightcove.TV.

All the video you previously watched and posted on Brightcove.com can now be viewed at Brightcove.TV. Any URLs you’ve shared with friends and family will automatically redirect to the same page on the new Brightcove.TV site.

We’ve refocused Brightcove.com to be the home of our corporate website, where you can learn about Brightcove Internet TV solutions for media companies, businesses, and marketers.

We hope the two URLs result in a better experience for all of our users. Thanks for your continued support.

Regards,
The Brightcove Team

Brightcove’s Adam Berry told Brian “We are not trying to become the next YouTube.”

Which is a good thing. I have been a strong supporter of Brightcove’s technology, and have many friends and family using the platform to share family videos without dumping them on YouTube. Users are able to create their own “Channels” to host their videos, with a unique URL to your own page as well as the individual videos.

As previously noted here and elsewhere, Brightcove signed deals with Tremor Media and BrightRoll to outsource their video ad sales, which will continue.
